Paden Prichard Design was originally formed in 1969 with a primary emphasis on free-lance graphic design, mostly for technical presentations, and secondarily for the design of homes for builders. By 1972, after several remodel projects for individuals and homes designed for builders, I designed a home with a distinct modern Victorian flair for a client from the east coast. This home was published by ‘Better Homes and Gardens’ magazine. The article resulted in over 300 inquiries from all parts of the United States.

The 1970s were very busy times in Marin County California. I continued to work with a few select builders who built quality speculative homes, but by 1975, I was working solely for individual clients, designing and observing the construction of specially designed custom homes and extensive remodels.

My work continues today with most clients derived from referrals and the occasional repeat client. Each house is designed for a particular site and for each client’s unique needs and desires. No plans are “pulled out of the drawer” and reused.  And even though personally I like the English Arts and Crafts style, each house is designed to reflect the owner’s needs and tastes. Consequently, each house is different. Over the years I have worked for more than 400 clients.
